Flamenco in Granada: the zambra

One of the most important flamenco cradles in Andalusia is undoubtedly Granada. The epicenter of flamenco in the city is Sacromonte, where every night the caves are filled with flamenco tablaos. In addition, in this neighborhood it is possible to find numerous artisan workshops of Spanish guitar, a fundamental element of flamenco. The zambra is a type of flamenco originating in Granada, characterized by its gypsy roots. It is danced with bare feet, a long skirt and castanets. The zambra dates back to the 16th century and shares some traits with belly dance. They began to become popular at Moorish weddings in Granada.
