He was born in Cádiz on November 23th, 1876, and died in Alta-Gracia, Argentina, on November 14th, 1946.

Representative of musical nationalism, he is one of the most important Spanish composers of the first half of the 20th century. After the death of his parents, Falla decided to travel to Granada in September 1919 with his sister María del Carmen. During that visit to the city, he met the poet Federico García Lorca. In 1920, Falla and his sister chose to establish their residence in the city and rented a house on Calle Real de la Alhambra. One of his first projects there was to organize a contest for "cantaores de cante jondo".

He has been as important to Granada as Granada has been to him, which is why the city of Granada decided to name an auditorium after him, called: Auditorio Manuel de Falla.
